Thinking globally, ministering locally
God at Work: around the world, around the corner. April 2009
“For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever (2 Cor. 4:18, TEV).”
When it comes to serving the Lord, it’s often incredibly tempting to look to things like numbers and tangible accomplishments to feel as though we are doing anything worthwhile. However, when we look on things “seen,” we are missing something much more valuable. It’s not about the number of people who show up, the money raised, or any of the other tangible success we like to dwell on, but it is instead about things like community, good triumphing over evil, and simply passing on the love of Christ. With each tangible accomplishment at GCM we are sure to praise God for the work going on below the surface of these things and in the hearts of all who are involved, for it is there that we find results that last forever.
Praises
· March began for us with a continuation of end of February events. Saturday, March 7th, we traveled with the team from Declaration Ministries to Lagos to have the second ordination service for Lagos area Declaration ordinates. The entire trip was concluded fruitfully with this event. We thank God for all that this team accomplished in their time here in Nigeria and the ways their work will continue in the lives of our ministers.
· Ifeoma, Shannon and Mary Ann safely traveled to the northern part of the country for a week long vacation. They were blessed to be able to experience Abuja and Yankari National Park where they were able to explore as well as enjoy a little rest and relaxation. They are grateful to God for the safe journey and the gift of their time together.
· Rev. Fyne Nsofor continued the work of Bishop McDowell as he taught the second half of Pentecostal Theology to the students at SAIACS during the last two weeks of March. The students were offered a wide range of information on this subject between the two lecturers and walked away from the course deeply enriched.
· We thank God for giving Mary Ann the opportunity to speak to a group of 100 boys ages 15-18 at Government College in Owerri. She was given time during their weekly moral instruction period to discuss with them matters of HIV/AIDS. The boys were very receptive and Mary Ann was greatly blessed by the opportunity to share with them.
· We are very thankful that the roof was finally completed on the prospective permanent Ihiala campus residence.
· God was gracious in our preparing for a team of youth coming from Florida in April. The group raised money to build a well in Ihiala and the start of the building of that well went incredibly. Much work was done to prepare for their coming and we are grateful that the preparations went smoothly. Stay tuned for more water news.
· We praise God for increasing interest in our seminary and programs, the several admission enquiries we received, and our new students in the month of March. We welcome Amah Collins and Peter Solomon to SAIACS!
Prayers
· We are still battling with issues involving our landlord at our current residence and we ask for prayers regarding our interactions with him.
· We ask that you would lift up our upcoming classes at SAIACS as we begin to move into the second trimester of the year.
· The well being built in Ihiala is still underway and needs God’s hand to guide all of the details and all of the labor. It is no easy task! Ask God to provide all of the workers with strength, patience, and blessings on their labor so that water can be soon distributed to all of the nearby residents.
· It’s a beehive of activities here, with our seminary teaching and learning, computer skills training and cybercafé, LivingWater, HIV and other compassion ministries, travels, preaching and teaching. Thanks for your continued prayers for the breath of God on our people and all that is going on here. To Him be all the glory!
Partnership
God is blessing the ministries going on here and we are so thankful for all of those who are helping us here in Nigeria and from across the world. It is only because of the compassion and generosity of our partners that we are able to continue each part of this organization. If you or anyone you know is interested in partnering with Global Christian Ministries we are never short of ways for people to get involved.
· Invite your church, youth group, family or other organization to do a fundraiser for our Living Water well program which provides access to clean water for local villages. Create awareness and support by getting involved in this ministry. Check out www.livingwaternigeria.blogspot.com for ideas.
· Our HIV/AIDS program is always in need of financial assistance to help provide materials/handouts to those who attend our conferences.
· We invite medical teams to come and minister to the sick in our community.
· Adjunct Faculty
The best of all is God with us!
