God at Work: around the world, around the corner. Summer 2009
Though the cherry trees don't blossom and the strawberries don't ripen,
Though the apples are worm-eaten and the wheat fields stunted,
Though the sheep pens are sheepless and the cattle barns empty,
I'm singing joyful praise to GOD.
I'm turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God.
Counting on GOD's Rule to prevail,
I take heart and gain strength.
I run like a deer.
I feel like I'm king of the mountain! (Habakkuk 3:17-19, MSG)
Why..? How long..? Questions…perplexities…limitations…frustrations…. Like Habakkuk, at more times than we might feel comfortable with; while we may be praying for God to change our situation, God might just be working to change us in the situation. Our purposes, our foci, our attitudes, our dispositions…all needing a huge realignment…. And like Habakkuk, if we would just STOP and contemplate the majesty of God, God’s justice, God’s righteousness and the wisdom of God; and in spite of the situation, we might as well join in singing joyful praise to GOD!
Praises
· Praise God for new hands on the deck. Late June, God added unto us three new volunteer staff people. Francis Anyanwu trained in Business Administration and is serving in our GlobalHEED/Microenterprise Development programs. Sylvester Azike’s degree is in Education/Economics and he is helping to cover GCM’s Library services as well as NewLife Cooperatives. Iyke Erebosi is an ordained minster, and his duties cover a range of Chapel, outreach-inreach ministries and personal assistance to Dr. Fyne.
· Join us in praising God for a successful take off of our Promise Keepers microloan program. In our pilot program, over a dozen rural women received various sums of loans to finance various small business enterprises. Recipients commit to supervised judicious utilization of loans, a twelve-month repayment plan and regular meeting with GlobalHEED loan officers and other members of the unit for exchange of ideas, training, prayers and fellowship.
· July 13 – 17, Dr. Fyne facilitated a thoroughly engaging discussion group of 20-30 ministers here @ SAIACS Chapel, working through Jonathan Lamb's From Why to Worship. At the close of a highly enriching week, each participant went home with a free copy of Lamb’s book and a commitment to work towards a proposed bigger Bible conference around the theme of From Why to Worship. (Lambs book provided free courtesy of Langham Graduate Book program).www.livingwaternigeria.blogspot.com). Our local community is bonding more and more together taking ownership and organizing to manage the supply of water. More people are enjoying clean cool water within easy reach. It’s incredible how much one well is helping to transform so many people’s lives.
· Our LivingWater first well has been a gift that keeps giving. (See Our First Well and slides at
· The Lord has been particularly good to us. There is resolve, harmony and a certain peace about us and the place--even in the midst of difficulties. Our cyber business has held up steadily supplying the finances to cover overhead and even do some capital things. The presence of God is evident; and students keep coming--even with severely limited advertising/marketing.
Prayers
· We covet your prayers for God’s continuing favor and blessings on us and all that we do for Him and through Him in our ministry
· Please pray especially for our new people, that God will smoothen their ways and ease them nicely into the spirit and swing of what we do here.
· Please continue to pray for our leaders-in-training new and old, lift them and their studies up to the Lord. Our unmitigated desire is that SAIACS be all that God wants it to be, that it provides for our leaders what they have been searching for, and that their passion for ministry will only grow as time goes on.
· Thanks for praying for our US board. Pray that God will continue and finish what He started in the hearts of our new and potential members as they seek God’s direction for a new GCM.
· Pray for Dr. Fyne as he travels back to the US. Pray for his safe trips, for God’s favor upon his life and ministry, and for a restful and refreshing time for him and his family.
· Pray for Rev Maduka and the rest of the principal officers and staff as they hold the forth in Fyne’s absence.
· Please pray for God’s comfort and sustenance for our colleague and friend Pastor Reginald Osuji as he buries the remains of his dear mother August 4.
· GCM is still in dire need of a new location. We are in need of guidance as to where this organization will thrive best and in need of the finances to make it happen.
Partnership
· As we continue to experience God’s blessings on the work that is going on here and in the US to build the ministries at GCM, we cannot but be filled with incredible gratitude for all of those who have chosen to partner with us. If you would like to join in on the good works there are many opportunities!www.livingwaternigeria.blogspot.com for ideas and to read more about the recent well building.
· Please remember that we are eagerly looking for more people to partner with on our LivingWater project. Many persons and communities are asking for a similar borehole in their villages. Want to help? Check out
· Note also that we are looking for contributions to raise the $5000 matching fund for our Promise Keepers microfinance program.
· Thanks for prayerfully considering making a substantial financial donation to enable GCM meet its need of a new home.
· We invite medical teams to come and minister to the sick in our community.
· We invite seminary Profs, pastors, or skilled lay persons to volunteer shorter or longer teaching time as adjunct faculty.
