Global Christian Ministries
Thinking globally, ministering locally
God at Work: around the world, around the corner. Summer 2010
But now, O God, strengthen my hands (Neh. 6:9 ESV))
Even if a frightening number of believers behaves as if it were not so, Christian ministry is a tough order—more so in particular ministry environments. Indeed, we wrestle not just against flesh and blood, but are in “a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.” There is the stiff opposition from those outside, the numbing indifference of a vast number of fellow pilgrims; the paralyses of limited resources; and just the enormity of the task at hand! Ministry is simply tough!
Here in Nigeria, we at Global Christian Ministries find ourselves in the Nehemiah Company—raising competent Christian leadership, combating the challenge of increasing Islamic insurgency, addressing crippling poverty and healing broken lives. We share the excitement of joining God in what He is doing around our world and around the corner; but we also share the hard realities of doing the work of ministry in a difficult environment like Nigeria.
Nehemiah knew this firsthand, as anyone in Christian ministry also knows. That overwhelming realization of the magnitude of the work at hand led Nehemiah to look up and ask God to strengthen his hands. He knew instinctively that without God’s help, all his effort will amount to nothing. Like Nehemiah, we know that all our effort and our work will come to nothing without God’s help. Would you join us as we implore Nehemiah’s God who is our also to come through for us; and that in our walk and all our works He would … strengthen our hands!
Praises
Spring brought Ivy (Fyne’s wife) on a five-week solo missions trip to GCM-Nigeria. They were five weeks to remember: seminary (module) teaching, power-packed marriage and prayer seminars, women conference, visits to orphanage and yes…time to relax, refresh and reconnect with Fyne! Yeah God…and thank you Ivy for coming and being with us.
- Praise God for successful conclusion of our SAIACS Easter Trimester and the beginning of our current Middle Trimester. Ongoing module – The Church and HIV/AIDS. Upcoming modules – Introduction to Islam; Theology of Holiness. We are thankful for the new students and people God is pleased to bring to us—welcome to Captain, Jane, Major, Anurika, Godfrey, Iyke, Prosper, Chino, Miki & Oluchi.
- We are thankful for God’s hand on all our ministries and outreaches to the community. Many in the community and adjacent universities, colleges and seminaries, and general public continue to utilize our GCM-SAIACS library program. Our poverty alleviation GlobalHEED/Microenterprise Development programs continue to bless rural families (thank you Richie and Iyke for coordinating); and our GlobalNet cybercafé (thanks Chigozie and Miracle).
- Early May, Dr. Fyne facilitated book review/seminar of Chris Wright’s Salvation Belongs To Our God here @ SAIACS chapel for local ministers, SAIACS students and local Christian public. At the close of the thoroughly engaging and enriching week, each participant went home with a free copy of Chris Wright’s book and a commitment to continuing education.
- Thank God for a much needed maintenance work on Our LivingWater well sump pump, power generating plant and electrical installations. Our served communities are once again enjoying clean cool portable water within.
Prayers - More than ever, we covet your prayers for God’s continuing favor and blessings on us and all that we do for Him and through Him in our ministry.
- Our accommodation saga has reached a critical point. We must relocate from our present campus within the next 30-60 days. Please pray with us as we negotiate new temporary accommodation, raise required funds for rent and relocation costs, and for smooth transition. We need some ‘right now’ help and God’s hand to strengthen us.
- Fyne is approved for writing sabbatical to complete work on his current book, tentatively titled One Nation Under God—based on his PhD research/dissertation on Christian Muslim relations in Nigeria. Thanks for your prayers for Fyne as he travels and writes; and for the leadership of SAIACS/GCM-Nigeria holding the forth.
- Thanks for your continued prayers for GCM, our outreaches, our people and our SAIACS leaders-in-training new and old. Please, continue to lift us up to the Lord. Our unmitigated desire is that SAIACS be all that God wants it to be, that it provides for our leaders what they have been searching for, and that their passion for ministry will only grow as time goes on.
Partnership - We have very urgent need for additional $7000-8000 for our new campus accommodation and relocation costs. Would you please prayerfully consider how the Lord may direct your assistance with this need?
- As we continue to experience God’s blessings on the work that is going on here and in the US to build the ministries at GCM, we cannot but be filled with incredible gratitude for all of those who have chosen to partner with us. If you would like to join in on the good works there are many opportunities!
- Please remember that we are eagerly looking for more people to partner with on our LivingWater project. Many persons and communities are asking for a similar borehole in their villages. Want to help? Check out www.livingwaternigeria.blogspot.com for ideas and to read more about the recent well building.
- We invite medical teams to come and minister to the sick in our community.
- We invite seminary Profs, pastors, or skilled lay persons to volunteer shorter or longer teaching time as adjunct faculty.
- Books for the library, Bibles, Gospel materials and equipment are always welcome.
The best of all is God with us!
